I ordered nickel silver in medium size. I have hair about 5” past my shoulder. My fair is fine, soft and can be a bit slippery. You know how some women can put their hair in a bun without pins, rubber bands and clips? If I tried to do that, it would not hold for one second and it was no different with this clip. I first tried putting my hair in a pony tail then wrap in a bun, then I tried using my hot bun, but the bun was too big for the medium sized clip, then I used a tube sock top rolled into a donut and that worked. First, I put my hair in a pony tail, then I put the donut towards the end of the pony tail and wrapped the ends around the donut and start to roll/wrap towards your head. Adjust hair to hide the donut. The bun is a little sloppy, but once you put the clip over the bun and place the pin, it looks fine and holds well.
