I feel really bad for the other reviewers whose bowls arrived broken. Mine came in one piece, so let me offer a true review. I love this bowl. The pottery is nicely polished and it has decent heft to it. I’m using a puck of Tabac soap at the moment, which is a large (3″) puck, and this fit it just about perfectly. In fact, the reason I needed a new shave mug is because the Van der Hagen one I had didn’t fit my Tabac soap. I have a picture of the two side by side, and you can see that at its widest point, the Handicrafts bowl is bigger in diameter than the typical mug. The grip and shape in the hand feels good. It’s also deep enough to whip up a good lather without spilling. Finally, I appreciate that it’s different from most shaving bowls—it really looks nice on the countertop next to my shave kit.
