Description Sonar Q Granular Herbicide Sonar’s active ingredient (a.i. fluridone) on a fast-releasing, easy-to-use pellet, allowing more accurate placement and targeted contact with undesired plants. Rapid pellet expansion allows the product to remain buoyant on sandy or firm bottoms, avoiding complications from the organic tie-up. Quick, Accurate Control Formulated as a 5% active ingredient on a 1/8-inch diameter granular pellet, Sonar Q quickly expands for an accelerated release into the water column, providing better control in ponds with muck sediments and high organic content. When used in ponds, Sonar Q releases a higher amount of active ingredient into the plant than other Sonar pellet formulations in a shorter amount of time. Innovative Release Process The Sonar Q pellet begins the degradation process immediately upon contact with the water. Once submerged the Sonar Q pellet swells and expands, transforming the pellet into a buoyant composition that will rest on top of soft muck bottom sediments. Sonar Q has the efficient concentration level of a liquid but provides for more accurate placement. The pellets will land where they are thrown, eliminating overspray onto sensitive shoreline vegetation like lawns. Sonar Formulations Offer Choices Our abundance of Sonar formulations allows us to provide applicators the options they need for controlling nuisance aquatic vegetation in a variety of treatment situations. Please see the Sonar Q label for an outline of vascular aquatic plants controlled, partially controlled, and not controlled by Sonar. Algae (Chara, nitella, filamentous species) are not controlled by Sonar. The selectivity of Sonar Q is dependent upon dosage, time of year, stage of growth, the method of application, and water movement. Sonar Q is a fast-releasing, systemic pellet herbicide (5% fluridone) designed for targeted control of submersed, floating, and emergent aquatic weeds like Hydrilla, Milfoil, and Duckweed. It sinks to the bottom and quickly releases, making it ideal for ponds with muck and high organic content. It provides long-term control, with weeds turning white and dying over 30–90 days. Key Features and Benefits Targeted Application: The 1/8-inch pellet allows for precise placement, reducing the risk of drift to desirable plants. Systemic Action: Absorbed by plant shoots and roots for thorough control, preventing rapid regrowth. Safe for Use: No restrictions on swimming, fishing, or boating. Easy to Use: Requires minimal material for effective, season-long control. Application and Usage Tips Best Time: Apply in early spring or summer when plants are actively growing. Dosage: Generally, 8 pounds of Sonar Q treats 2.0 acre-feet of water. Conditions: Works best in ponds with little to no water flow to prevent premature dilution. Safety Note: While safe for fishing and swimming, there may be a 7 to 30-day restriction on using treated water for irrigation.
