Description Cutrine Plus Granular Algaecide • Recommended for algae and chara growing on the bottom of the lake or pond. A fast-acting, chelated copper algaecide used to control bottom-growing algae and the rooted aquatic plant Hydrilla in ponds, lakes, and other approved water bodies. It is a popular, professional-grade solution that is safe for most fish, livestock, and recreational activities when applied as directed. Product Information Active Ingredient: It contains 3.7% elemental copper (10.7% Copper Ethanolamine Complex). Target Growth: It is effective against various algae types, including Chara, Nitella, and bottom-growing filamentous algae, as well as the aquatic weed Hydrilla. Mechanism: The granules sink rapidly to the bottom, releasing the chelated copper directly to the target area. The chelating agents ensure the copper stays active in the water longer than standard copper sulfate. Safety: When used as directed, there are no restrictions on swimming, fishing, drinking, or irrigation after treatment. However, it should not be used in waters containing koi, hybrid goldfish, or trout if the water’s carbonate hardness is below 50 ppm, as these species are copper-sensitive. Key Features & Benefits: Targeted Action: Granules sink rapidly to the bottom, attacking algae where it grows. Fast & Long-Lasting: Works within days for planktonic algae, providing longer control for filamentous types, with treatments lasting weeks. Broad Use: Effective in potable water reservoirs, fish ponds, golf course hazards, and more. Water Use: Treated water is safe for swimming, fishing, and irrigation immediately after application. Hard Water Compatible: Chelated formula works well even in hard water. Common Plants Controlled: Cutrine Plus Granular is effective against the following specific types of algae and one specific aquatic plant: Benthic/Bottom-Growing Algae: This includes a wide range of types often found at the bottom of a water body. Filamentous Algae: Often called pond moss, string algae, or green algae. Spirogyra Cladophora Vaucheria Ulothrix Macro-algae: Chara (muskgrass) Nitella (starry stonewort) Starry stonewort (an invasive macro-algae) Rooted Aquatic Plant: Hydrilla verticillata (commonly known as hydrilla) *See product label for complete list of weeds / species. Application Guidelines Treatment Area Calculation: To determine the surface area in acres, measure the length and width of the infested area in feet and divide by 43,560 (Length (ft) x Width (ft) / 43,560 = Surface Acres). Even Distribution: Distribute the granules evenly over the water surface directly above the targeted vegetation. A dry fertilizer spreader can help ensure even coverage. Staggered Treatment: To avoid suffocating fish due to oxygen depletion from decaying algae, never treat more than one-third to one-half of the body of water at a time. Allow 1-2 weeks between treatments for oxygen levels to recover. Timing: For best results, apply early in the morning on a sunny, calm day when water temperatures are at least 60°F. Water Hardness: Do not use in waters containing trout, koi, or hybrid goldfish, or if the carbonate hardness of the water is less than 50 ppm, as it can be toxic to these species.
